The Infernone Canyon

An Adventure in the Heart of Biella

Hidden in the wild green of the Biellese mountains, the Infernone Canyon winds through the area of Sordevolo, following the powerful current of the Elvo stream. This hidden gem of Piedmont is a true paradise for canyoning lovers, shaped over millennia by the force of water.
The route leads through narrow, dramatic gorges where light barely filters between polished rock walls. Along the way, you'll encounter breathtaking waterfalls, natural slides, and deep potholes—smooth, round basins carved by swirling water over the centuries. Every meter is packed with emotion: the perfect mix of adrenaline, nature, and raw beauty.

Inside the heart of the Canyon

Meeting point & briefing — Rifugio nel Bosco di Alice
The adventure begins at Rifugio Bosco di Alice, deep in the green Infernone Park, in Sordevolo (BI). In this peaceful spot among the woods, you'll be welcomed by our staff for a short intro briefing: we'll walk you through the route and what to expect. Then it's time to gear up with all the necessary equipment for a safe and energetic experience.

Start of the adventure
After a 20-minute walk, we'll set up the gear and enter the stream—optionally—with a 4-meter jump. We'll make our first stop to get familiar with the environment, then continue with easy jumps and natural passages, including short climbs.

Natural alides and exciting toboga
We'll tackle a series of fun, easy natural slides, leading to the 7-meter toboga and a second large natural pool. At the end of the pool, we'll abseil down 6 meters and enter a cave where sunlight makes the water crystal-clear. Exiting the cave, we'll take on another exhilarating slide.

Heading toward the final descent
The canyon narrows further here, revealing some of the most scenic jumps and slides surrounded by towering granite walls. Going with the flow, we'll reach a fork: either jump 5 meters or abseil into a second cave formed by huge boulders. The adventure ends with a final 4-meter jump, then we float gently to the confluence with the Janca stream.

Return to the hut
We follow the stream for about 10 minutes until we find a steep but short trail. In around 15 minutes, we'll be back at the Rifugio nel Bosco di Alice.
